The children and staff at Captain Shaw’s are deeply committed to supporting the community and environment, so we are immensely proud, in partnership with the Rivers Trust and Bootle Parish Council, to have been involved in the design and planting of the new Bootle woodland! During this exciting process, children practised their map skills to investigate the location of the development plot and then explored the importance of woodland for the environment. We even borrowed a maths lesson to explore the actual size of the plot and how we would then have to scale down our design appropriately...

In December, we were incredibly excited to visit the plot once again, but this time, the path was built, the hide had been constructed and the picnic benches were in place! However… there were no trees! So it was time for the children to get stuck in! Take a look at our progress below!
What an incredibly worthwhile (and exhausting) day! Our children are so proud they have been an integral part of leaving such a rich legacy for the community and environment. We look forward to visiting and continuing to support its development.
