The Iron Line

The Iron Line is an exciting project that aims to make one of our most loved, local places even better for the community! It is hopefully going to be a wonderful and much improved pathway (for walking, cycling, jogging etc) across and around Hodbarrow and the seawall. The pathway will be called The Iron Line because of the iron mines that used to be here.

The Iron Line will pass:

through the bird reserve
along the seawall
past our Haverigg Lighthouse
next to the lagooon

People who walk and explore along the Iron Line will see and experience:

the amazing birds,
the sea and the Duddon estuary,
the beaches and the sand dunes,
the marran grass,
the huge seawall with its incredible concrete blocks,
The old seawall now in the lagoon,
the old lighthouse and the iron lighthouse,
the rare, plants, flowers and insects that grow in this special place
The history of the mines – the stories and memories
The incredible views of Black Combe and the Lake District hills

The Competition!

Children are invited to design a logo/emblem for the Iron Line that captures the spirit of the project and shows the unique features of the local area! We have been working hard to develop our design skills in order to create some amazing entries!

Check out some of our entries below...

Challenge 2: The information Board

The children were tasked to create an information board so walkers would have an idea of what to look forward to and how to look after and respect the environment. Here is an example of what the groups managed to achieve:
