The School at the Heart of the Community

School Values

Our school values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Captain Shaw’s provides education in a caring, family environment, which supports and encourages pupils to reach their full potential, no matter what their starting point. We are aspirational for all our pupils and aim to prepare them for life within the community and in the wider world. We strive to provide a well-balanced, diverse and exciting curriculum, which engages and motivates all pupils. We value our natural environment and believe strongly in providing opportunities to explore and learn in the outdoors. We enable our pupils to develop acceptance, empathy and understanding of people and communities in Britain and in the wider world. Our ethos is guided by Christian principles and enhanced by strong links with our local churches and our community.

Our Golden rules:

  • To respect all members of our school community
  • To be kind and thoughtful
  • To listen to others
  • To always take pride in our work
  • To encourage other to do their best
  • To follow instructions right away

  • To provide a high standard of education for pupils aged 2-11 within the local community, which is sustainable in the long term.
  • To continue to develop a learning environment which supports high quality education and successful outcomes in all areas of the curriculum.
  • To protect and strengthen our links with the local community and the Church of England.
