  • Our Curriculum

Our unique school curriculum is woven together to ensure all children receive ambitious, inspiring and progressive learning experiences throughout their journey, all underpinned by our carefully developed vision and values.

"Pupils respond well to the high aspirations that the school has of their children. Pupils demonstrate a high level of motivation towards their learning. They work exceptionally well together. They are well-prepared for each stage of their education. This includes children in the early years who are ready for the demands of Year 1."

How is our curriculum put together?

    Vision

Each whole school topic begins with a big idea or vision, such as, 'Superheroes', 'Let's Invent' and 'Right or Wrong?'

    Vehicle

We then plan for a 'vehicle' or real-life project to drive each topic. Each project gives children a valuable opportunity to use their learning in meaningful ways; becoming active citizens to benefit, for example, the school, the local community, the wider world, the environment or charities.

These projects also help our children to develop key skills, 'find their voice' and understand that they can make a difference. Our older children also use these opportunities to hone their leadership and project management skills; working towards the school's Excellence Award and the Cumbrian Award.

    Values

Each vision and vehicle is underpinned by one of our core values and one of the British values. This gives children an opportunity to focus on, learn about and act on these values during the topic and when taking part in the real-life project. Each week, children are recognised and rewarded for modelling these values.

    Subjects

The subject and topics within those subjects are carefully mapped out to ensure balance and breadth. They are also carefully matched to the vision and vehicle, so children can learn in context and make intelligent connections between subjects.

    Stepping Stones

For each subject, knowledge and skills, 'stepping stones', are carefully mapped out. This ensures all pupils, from nursery to the end of Year 6, can successfully build on their previous learning and are always ready for the next topic, year or stage of their education.
