At Captain Shaw's, we value the relationship we have with our families.

Parents and carers know their children best, and listening to their experiences helps us understand what is working well and where we can continue to improve.

Being a small school means that many of these conversations happen naturally – at the school gate, through the school office, at meetings or simply by messaging us. We want families to feel able to speak to us.

Whether you want to share something that has gone well, ask a question, raise a concern or suggest something that could be better, we would always encourage you to talk to us.

Listening and Working Together

Children do not all experience school in exactly the same way, and neither do families.

As part of our commitment to inclusion, we try to listen carefully, understand individual circumstances and work in partnership with parents and carers so that every child can belong, participate, achieve and flourish.

Sometimes feedback leads to a small change for an individual child. At other times, what families tell us helps us think about our wider provision and school improvement.

Listening does not mean that we will always agree – but it does mean that your views will be heard and treated with respect.

Ofsted Parent View

Alongside talking directly to school, parents and carers can share their views through Ofsted Parent View.

The questionnaire asks about different aspects of your child's experience of school, including whether your child is happy and feels safe, behaviour and bullying, the education they receive and, where relevant, how well the school supports children with SEND.

You can complete Parent View at any time – you do not need to wait until the school is being inspected. Responses are anonymised and Ofsted uses the information to help inform its work with schools.

Talk to Us Too

Parent View is useful, but you don't need to complete a questionnaire to tell us what you think.

If there is something you would like to discuss, please speak to your child's teacher or contact the school office. If something is worrying you, we would much rather know about it early so that we can listen, understand and work together.
