Curriculum

What does your child learn at school each day?

Our Curriculum is designed to engage and excite your child and to foster a love of learning, both collaboratively and independently.  We have planned a rolling program of topic work and science work which means that each year your child is given new opportunities and challenges.

Our topic curriculum ensures coverage of the History and Geography expectations set out in the National Curriculum.  We use topic work as hook for other subjects in the curriculum, such as: Art, Design and Technology, Music, Dance and Drama.

Our curriculum is enriched in several other ways:

- Each child in KS2 learns a tuned instrument

- We run Beach School or Forest School sessions, for all pupils for one term in each year

- Our KS2 pupils prepare and serve  Community Lunch on Fridays developing skills for life.

Maths Curriculum

Our curriculum and teaching is planned to allow pupils to meet the end of year objectives for their year group which are set out in the Primary National Curriculum 2015.

We use Big Maths, White Rose Maths and Maths No Problem to support our teaching.

English Curriculum

Our curriculum and teaching is planned to allow pupils to meet the end of year objectives for their year group which are set out in the Primary National Curriculum 2015.

We teach Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar discretely and look for skills to be applied in writing across the curriculum.

We aim to teach reading and writing as much as possible through our topic work and through other subjects, such as science.

Phonics is taught using a systematic phonic approach following Letters and Sounds.

Reading books are linked to the children's phonic knowledge in KS1.  We have an extensive range of quality reading materials, which have been colour coded to enable progression of reading skills.  In Key Stage 2 we have invested in a high quality range of fiction and non-fiction books to engage pupils and to develop a love of reading.
