Woodland Project

Our 'Woodlands and Water Project' Journey

The children and staff at Captain Shaw’s are deeply committed to supporting the community and environment, so we are immensely proud, in partnership with the Rivers Trust and Bootle Parish Council, to have been involved in the design and planting of the Bootle woodland! During this exciting process, children practised their map skills to investigate the location of the development plot and then explored the importance of woodland for the environment. We even borrowed some maths lessons to explore the actual size of the plot and how we would then have to scale down our design appropriately...

Planting!

Later in the year, we were incredibly excited to visit the plot once again, but this time, the path was built, the hide had been constructed and the picnic benches were in place! However… there were no trees! So it was time for the children to get stuck in!

What an incredibly worthwhile (and exhausting) day it was! Our children were so proud they had been an integral part of leaving such a rich legacy to the community and environment. The children were even able to officially open the woodland, alongside the Parish council and Rivers Trust.

Over the years, the trees have been growing steadily. However, Bracken had taken a hold. Bootle Parish Council were keen to continue to give the trees the best chance, so they approached us to see if the children were interested in some 'Bracken trampling'! We jumped at the chance!
