We know that choosing the right school for your child is an important decision. If you are considering Captain Shaw's, we warmly invite you to come and visit us, meet our staff and children and see our school in action.

Applying for a School Place

Captain Shaw's is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England Primary School. This means that Cumberland Council is our admission authority and manages applications for school places.

Applications for children starting Reception should be made through Cumberland Council.

Joining Us During the School Year

If you are moving into the area or would like your child to change schools during the school year, this is known as an in-year admission. Applications for Captain Shaw's are also managed through Cumberland Council.

We would still encourage you to contact us and arrange a visit if you are thinking about joining our school.

Admission Appeals

If you are not offered a place at Captain Shaw's, you have the right to appeal to an independent admission appeal panel. As a voluntary-controlled school, our admission appeals are also managed by Cumberland Council.

Nursery Admissions

Applications for our Nursery are made directly to the school. Please contact us if you would like to discuss a Nursery place or arrange a visit.

Please note that attending Captain Shaw's Nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception. Applications for Reception must be made separately through Cumberland Council.
